The ground is the flat of the Coyote Creek plain, silt that the tract builders poured straight onto with nothing under the slab, which is why a 1950s drive here has settled at the apron and lifted at the parkway tree. It is not the sand of the mesa we work on at home and it does not drain like it, so the base under a Buena Park slab is 4 inches of crushed rock compacted in place.
